Friends are sponsoring a BoookTacular event at the library

Friends of the Parkersburg Library have another fun fall event in store for the community! This week local businesses and organizations are being asked to create something fun for Halloween. And it’s BoookTacular! Because libraries and books go hand- in- hand, Friends thought this would be a perfect way to promote the library. They will be handing out folded books this week that will be used to create a Halloween character. Folded book page art is something relatively new, easy and fun. Great examples can be found at: http://www.pinterest.com/anngwilson/book-page-art-or-book-folding
Here are the rules:
•    Decorate your book to look like a pumpkin, ghost or any Halloween character.
•    Use non-perishable items only. Books may be painted.
•    Want a larger size? Anyone wanting to make a different size character is welcome to do so.
•    Book-art characters must be returned to the library by Sept 30.
•    People can vote for their favorite by placing pennies in a jar. The most $ wins the contest.
•    The contest winner is invited to a ghoulish feast with Friends of the Library.
•    Any book- art characters not reclaimed will be property of the library.
•    Voting begins Oct. 1.
•    Voting will end Oct. 25.

For those businesses and organizations that may not have been contacted, or for any questions, please call the library at 319-346-2442. You may also stop in the library at 309 3rd St. for more information.

New Feature Fiction:
The Mayan Secrets by Clive Cussler: Husband-and-wife team Sam and Remi Fargo are in Mexico when they come upon a remarkable discovery—the skeleton of a man clutching an ancient sealed pot. Within the pot is a Mayan book larger than anyone has ever seen. The book contains astonishing information about the Mayans, their cities, and about mankind itself. The secrets are so powerful that some people would do anything to possess them—as the Fargo’s are about to find out. Before their adventure is done, many men and women will die for that book—and Sam and Remi may just be among them.

The Whole Enchilada by Diane Mott Davidson: Goldy Schulz knows her food is to die for, but she never expects one of her best friends to actually keel over when she's leaving a birthday party Goldy has catered. At first, everyone assumes that all the fun and excitement of the party did her in. But what looks like a coronary turns out to be a generous serving of cold-blooded murder. When a colleague is stabbed and Goldy is attacked outside her house it becomes clear that the popular caterer is the main course on a killer menu. With time running out, Goldy must roll up her sleeves, sharpen her knives, and make a meal out of a devious murderer, before that killer can serve her up cold.
